The exhibition "spaces & emotions" has arrived in Rijeka!

A huge thank you to Tihomil Kreitmayer and Leo Modrčin for helping bring the exhibition to DAR (Society of Architects, Rijeka), where it will be on display from September 19 to October 3, 2025.

We had a great time at the opening event, which included a mini-lecture by Darko on "infraordinary Tokyo."

Moleskine discontinued the production of the pocke

Moleskine discontinued the production of the pocket-sized Japanese album three years ago. Therefore, I decided to make my own orihon using old books that I acquired from secondhand bookshops.
"Les Caractères" is a French book that I discovered in a bookshop in Jimbosho, Tokyo, in January of this year. I applied a fine layer of gesso to the age-old paper and treated it as a palimpsest. The paper has a stunning patina which is fun to work with.
Different "characters" are depicted as they appreciate the waterfront promenade along the riva of Split in my paintings.
Split Riva is a unique place where residents dress to impress and tourists enjoy the beautiful vistas while walking, sitting, and gazing out. I attempted to capture the ordinary moments of strolling through this place.

I was featured on HRT4, aired on 11.06.2025. Thanks to Tatjana Lisičin, reporter from HRT whom we met since the workshops Anatomija Otoka (2012-16) in Vis. She kindly came to see the exhibition and we wondered around Diocletian Palace for the footage filming. Sorry, no English subtitles.. :)

A new, but shorter version of orihon, of Marjan, D

A new, but shorter version of orihon, of Marjan, Druga Voda, Split. This place is one of the most beautiful spots for swimming in the wild. I tried to capture the beautiful pine trees that cast shadows around and frame the breathtaking view of Koziak mountains. The colour of the sea is a mix of blue and turquoise. The water is clear like crystal. I love the gentle winds that accompany the sound of cicadas. It is so peaceful.
How can I paint all these?

This work is featured in the ongoing exhibition "skice i slike Dalmacije" (Sketches and Paintings of Dalmatia) at Gradska knjižnica Marka Marulića until July 11, 2025.

The opening of the exhibition SKICE i SLIKE DALMAC

The opening of the exhibition SKICE i SLIKE DALMACIJE (sketches and paintings of Dalmatia) went well yesterday. Thank you to friends, family , and those who love the arts for dropping by and supporting. The works are well-received by the local public. I've got lots of compliments, and pleased that this happened here in Split.
The exhibition showcases my work since 2011, when I first visited Split. All the sketches and paintings of Split and the surrounding places in Dalmatia have been selected for display here.
It is like bringing them back home to where they belong.

The exhibition showcases a selection of sketches and paintings made in and around Split by Davisi Boontharm.

Since 2011, Davisi has consistently made sketches and paintings during her summer visits and even from afar. Through her work, she aims to capture the essence of the places by portraying scenes of everyday life, townscapes, seascapes, and people while experimenting with various media, techniques, and formats. This exhibition at City Library Marko Marulić Split is the first time that her artworks on Split and Dalmatia will be shared for the enjoyment of the local audience. The collection consists of four series of work:
1. Picturesque of Split and Vis: a series of poster-size paintings in black and white brushwork, showcasing the beautiful scenic views of these two places.
2. Yellow & Indigo: watercolour of the facade of Vis looking from the sea.
3. Orihon sketchbooks: a collection of Moleskine Japanese albums and some handmade concertina books filled with sketches that depict different facets of Dalmatia, including the scenes from Split, and the journeys to the towns and nearby islands.
4. 100 postcard-sized watercolour sketches in which Davisi explores the concept of “haiku” in painting, capturing various summer urban lives through observations of café terraces, busy beaches, and a lively riva.

The opening of the exhibition is on 24th June at 18:00.

"Hiroto's collection of irons" features a handmade

"Hiroto's collection of irons" features a handmade orihon with sketches of vintage irons. This was created as a special gift to thank him for his hospitality during our first three weeks in Tokyo. These irons came from various parts of the globe, representing different eras in the history of this household tool that tidies up clothes. Each item is a testament to thoughtful design, focusing on heat retention, weight optimization, and shape craftsmanship for maximum functionality while also appealing to our aesthetic sensibilities. Although they are common objects of everyday life, observing and drawing the entire collection makes me aware of their significance.

The opening of the exhibition "from journeys and from home" went smoothly thanks to the hard work of all who brought support.

Thank you to the friends and visitors who dropped by these days; I did enjoy each walk through the sketchbooks with you, and your encouragement means a lot.

Thank you to all the Shinkenchiku-sha + POST bookstore staff who assisted throughout the journey.
