The inner facades of Ljubljana. I started in Octob

The inner facades of Ljubljana. I started in October 2022, with some interruptions, and finally finished in July 2023. I captured lives at Prešernov trg near Tromostovje, then I continued along Ljubljanica towards the south, looking across the river. There was an autumn atmosphere with a bright sky. Ljubljanica creates a good distance to be on one side but still connects with the other. It is a real city of human scale, a 15-minute city, pleasant to live in.
I tried to capture not only architecture... but lives... not only people but depths, especially the feeling of being part of the place. I hope this invites the viewers to look, follow, make their own journeys along, or back and forth... looking around and shifting focus.
Place matters.
City matters.
Beauty matters.

During the sketch & script workshop 23-27 Septembe

During the sketch & script workshop 23-27 September 2024 at the University of Ljubljana. Students from co+labo Sano, Keio University, Japan and ULFA traveled to Škofija Loka to exercise overlooks 4 hours in situ sketching on orihon. I also did a very fast sketch from the balcony of a café that overlook the Sora River. The drawing is still "non-finito"...

The opening of the exhibition "palimpsest" at small format gallery - Koloć, Bol was very well received. Despite the heat and late opening time, many locals and visitors turned up to give their appreciation and support. Thank you to everyone involved especially Mr Ivica Karninčić and Mr Stjepan Krajević from Galerija malih formata.

The exhibition catalogue features Darko's essay on "palimpsest" which can be found also on our co+re blog, www.core.place.

"PALIMPSEST" exhibition at the small format gallery in Bol, on the island of Brač, Croatia.
I requalify the old papers from Japanese poetry book and Thai novel, ground partially with gesso and overlay with watercolour sketches of Bol.

Orihon is just a book, a long, folded sheet of paper containing text, drawings, or both. In a formal sense
between a scroll and a codex, it could be seen as superior to both, as it overcomes the clumsiness and
risks of rolling and unrolling and does away with the linear progression dictated by bookbinding.
Orihon are flexible. The text and images tend to be on one side only unless decided otherwise.
Davisi Boontharm’s exhibition at Oris House of Architecture in Zagreb brings to a single place the largest
ever number of her orihon sketches and drawings. When unfolded, these small, Moleskine Japanese Albums measuring 9x14 cm add up to more than a hundred meters in length. Depending on the theme or an
underlying mood, they were drawn and painted from left to right or from right to left, with pencil, pen, and brush, in watercolor or ink, by her right and, sometimes, left hand.
Spatialities of orihon are both physical and experiential, lived, in the way in which our own folded existential realities are. An engaged materiality of the fold, an (un)fold(ed) fold.
